THE PATTON PRACTICE
WELCOME! I'M THERESA PATTON
I began my journey in the area of addiction and mental health more than two decades ago treating addiction and co-occurring disorders in adults, children and adolescents. Then, and now, I believe that co-occurring disorders existed, although there was little research or training to support my hypothesis.
I questioned the past childhood experiences of the adolescents and adults I served, frequently wondering if there was a therapeutic approach that would treat the addiction and mental health collectively, working to eliminate the destruction and shame the disease fosters, truly giving individuals and families the opportunity to heal? Yes, yes, there is.
TREATING ADDICTION WITH MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS:
Many people don’t fully understand obsessions and compulsion. Adjustments in your life, i.e., the death of a loved one, separation, divorce, trauma. Although they are frequently a routine part of our lives they can incite racing thoughts, anxiety, depression, impulsivity. That soda or coffee drink that you “must” have every day at 3:00 pm just to "feel normal." Or maybe it’s the anticipation of payday and the permission to "let go." That feeling of desperation you feel when nothing is going right or working out. The feeling that creates a recklessness in you that includes risk-taking and poor decision-making, emotional eating, risky sexual encounters, alcohol and substance use. These are disorders that can ignite dependence. Addiction can illuminate mental health disorders, which at its core can destroy everything it touches, taking no prisoners, leaving nothing behind in its wake. Sadly, no one is immune to what it controls and manipulates. In my career, I have seen it annihilate many different people from many different families and places all fighting the same disease. I am committed to learning the whys of your disease and targeting solutions that work for you. Working together we can change your life, giving the people to whom you are most connected the return of YOU. I think that’s about as good a reason as any to do this.
HOW WE'LL WORK TOGETHER:
I’ll challenge you and your thinking, while supporting the changes and goals you create for yourself. I will expect you to integrate what you learned from each session as we delve deeper to ensure your awareness is heightened. I will be your advocate and greatest supporter as you heal. I'm professional without being robotic and personal...sharing a bit of me along the way. What you say to me stays with me and remains private. I will do my homework and prepare for each session with you. I will remember what’s important to you and incorporate where it may fit. When we finish, I keep working, connecting the dots to develop clarity on things you’ve shared and where to journey during our next visit. I’m pretty shock-proof. I’ve heard almost everything there is, so no guilt or embarrassment. I’m human too.
THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS:
I’ll meet you where you are, go to places that make sense for your care so that you can use your awareness to make changes. I will integrate many modalities as we work. I won’t bore you by giving you clinical jargon (unless you want it). I’ll tell you stories that you can draw on when you need to master a challenge. We’ll talk about progress at specific intervals. Your scheduled appointment is "YOUR TIME." I will never double book our appointment together, so I request that you ensure you are on time for your session. I understand that you may have to cancel an appointment, that's fine. I ask that you do so in advance to provide another client the opportunity to book the opening and respect my need to fill the vacancy in the schedule. I’ll ask for your feedback and make sure we’re on the same page. Everything I bring to session and employ is evidenced-based and has solid research and outcomes supporting it. Plainly stated, “it does what it’s supposed to do.”
My practice proudly works with individuals, couples and adolescents, regardless of sexual orientation, religion or ethnicity. As a culturally competent therapist, I want to support you as you break the cycle of pain and guilt. Many say you are privileged if you can do what you love and help along the way. Well then, I feel very privileged indeed.
I am a private practitioner who chooses to focus primarily on your specific treatment needs and ongoing care. As a result, I do not accept insurance. Cash, checks, credit, debit cards as well as health savings accounts are accepted. Invoicing statements are automatically generated to your client portal if you wish to submit them to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Session fees are due at or before the time of service.
An assessment is the first step for new clients to develop a plan of treatment and goal setting which is the blueprint for our work together. A new client assessment is $210.00.
For established clients, therapy fees range from $70.00 to $160.00 per session depending upon the type and the duration. Requests to complete documentation may be honored for an additional fee. Please inquire at the office for details specific to your needs.
Late cancellation fees are charged for missed appointments and range from a minimum of $50.00 to the full scheduled session cost charged to the credit or debit card on file.
New clients will receive access to the client portal upon request to schedule their first session. All essential documentation is electronic and transmitted through the HIPAA compliant portal exclusively for the client to review and sign. Access to the client portal is secure and time sensitive. Please be aware that if documents are not retrieved for initial completion by the client within 3 business days, portal access is rescinded. The appointment request is automatically deleted and not scheduled.
Therapy is a process and will provoke awareness and engagement from you and is a commitment. The average duration of therapy is approximately 6-9 months with one session occurring each week. I encourage all clients to maintain their dedication to the process in order to fully realize the positive impact therapeutic treatment can offer to their emotional health. It is an investment of the greatest commodity we possess...ourselves. I hope to see you soon.
